Upcoming Events 2019

Each Year Friends of Abbey Fields arrange a number of events which are open to members of Friends of Abbey Fields as well as the residents of Kenilworth.  These events help to bring a focus on some of the important and less well known Natural History aspects of Abbey Fields: Birds, Bats, Trees and Meadows. Other events include some of the maintenance activities, which are so important in helping keep Abbey Fields a pleasant and interesting place for children and adults alike.  Where we can we will also provide information about events which, although not organised by Friends of Abbey Fields, are directly or indirectly associated with Abbey Fields.

We anticipate that in 2019 Abbey Fields will be used by The Funfair, Kenilworth Arts Festival and The Lions.  Again, details will be published as soon as we have them.

Events planned by Friends of Abbey Fields in 2019

Sat 18th May 10:00 a.m. Tree Walk
This year we are lucky to have Lesley Hall and Veronica Hyland to lead our Tree walk.
The range of trees in Abbey Fields makes it almost unique in Warwickshire and the Midlands.
Lesley Hall and Veronica Hyland are longstanding members of Warwick Tree Wardens, an independent organisation affiliated to the national Tree Council.  Covering the Warwick District, and in liaison with the council, they plant trees, provide care for trees, give advice, and organise talks and visits.

Our 10:00 a.m. start will be at the War Memorial, Abbey Fields.

Sat 1st June 9:30 a.m. Litter Pick  Please see here for more details

Wed 3rd July 9:15 p.m. Bat Walk
This will be led by Dr. Jon Russ who is an ecologist. He may bring a recued bat to the event. Weather permitting, we should be able to see some of the different types of bats that reside in or near Abbey Fields.
Please note that as bats tend to fly at dusk, this will start at 9:15 p.m.
We will meet in St. Nicholas Car Park, Abbey Fields.

Sat 6th July 9:30 a.m. Litter Pick  Please see here for more details

Sat 3rd August 9:30 a.m. Litter Pick  Please see here for more details

Fri 9th August 9:00 p.m. Moth Evening
This will be led by David Brown, the County Moth Recorder. He will bring two of his moth traps so that we will be able to see some of the many varieties of moths which can be found in Abbey Fields. It is surprising what lovely colours are displayed by these little creatures. Be assured, the moths are attracted to the lights of the moth traps – but even if they do happen to come close to you they will not hurt you. Don’t forget to bring something warm to wear as it does get quite cool later on and don’t forget to bring your torch.
Please note that the best time to see moths is late evening and after so we will start at 9:00 p.m.
We will meet in St. Nicholas Car Park, Abbey Fields.

Tue 3rd September 7:30 p.m. Annual General Meeting
The AGM will be held at the Senior Citizens’ Club at Abbey End

Sat 7th September 9:30 a.m. Litter Pick   Please see here for more details
