Working Party, 17 April 2024

On Wednesday, April 17th, 2024, a group of seven volunteers finished sowing wildflower and wild grass seeds in Abbey Fields. The areas where the seeds were sown are cut back every five years in rotation, which gives wildflowers and wild grasses a chance to grow. The volunteers focused on areas in the Paddock and north of the lake.

We are excited to see the results of their hard work! The wildflowers that were sown include red campion, common knapweed, wild teasel, garlic mustard, hedge woundwort, sainfoin, and tufted vetch. The grasses that were sown include crested dog’s tail, red fescue, cocksfoot, tall fescue, smooth-stalked meadow grass, and meadow fescue.
