Warwick District Council will carry out necessary maintenance on three oak trees situated in Abbey Fields in the next few weeks (early May 2024). However, this will require the footpath around the north and west side of the lake to remain closed for the duration of the works.
An ecologist will be on site with a watching brief, to help minimise the impact on wildlife, and a track matt system will be in place to protect the ground.
The three trees will be reduced and some of the cut branches will be left on site. This will allow the invertebrates that reside within the wood to stay in their natural habitat. Moreover, as the dead timber decomposes, it will also provide a new home for a variety of insects. Since the amount of trimming is significant, some of the timber will have to be removed from Abbey Fields.
